Abstract

Looking at the discussion about the artistic values of movies in the case of Neighboring Sounds in the newspapers and Brazilian sites, we can understand the ways that the movie was socially defined as highly valued and how its director, Kleber Mendonça Filho, was important in this process. We contact a filmmaker who made efforts to build his own social identity through valuations of his work and positions about the Brazilian film production of his time.
