Review procedures

Aniki has a three-step editorial process:

(1) Editors’ initial screening: After the successful completion of the online submission process, manuscripts will be read and evaluated by the section editors to ensure that they meet the journal’s editorial and section policies. Papers that do not meet these requirements, in part or in their entirety, or that do not ensure the authors’ anonymity will be automatically rejected. In this case, authors will be notified within one month of the submission date.

(2) Peer review (for essays): If the manuscript is accepted by the editors, the peer review process is initiated. The paper will be forwarded, via the journal’s online system, to two referees with obvious expertise on the submission’s subject. Reviewers will not know the authors’ identities; authors will not know the reviewers’ identities. Referees will pay special attention to the following issues: originality and relevance of the article in relation to previously published work; methodological coherence; article’s contribution to the field of study; clarity of the arguments; writing style.

Reviewers will then write a report containing one of the following recommendations: reject paper; accept with (major/ minor) changes; accept without changes. Please note that the final decision regarding publication is up to the section editor. Authors will be notified of the decision and gain access to the reviewers’ reports within five months of the submission date. In case the reviewers suggest changes to the paper, authors will have one month to re-write it.

(3) Copyediting: After completion of the peer review process, the paper will be edited and proofread by the section editor or a professional proofreader. Authors will receive further suggestions and instructions to modify their paper and should reply within one week. They will be able to approve the galley proofs of the article before publication.
