Body, space and the politics of movement in Kelly Reichardt's films
Abstract
The present article analyzes the construction of the filmic space in Kelly Reichardt’s cinema, especially in the films Wendy and Lucy (2008) and Meek’s cutoff (2010), through the patterns of movement staged by the body of its characters. In order to do that, the article problematizes the concept of landscape, seeking to recognize it in relation to the idea of taskscape, as introduced by Tim Ingold, and therefore in a certain relation with the body. In this sense, the article pursuits to read the filmic space together with these patterns of movement and in a historic and socio-geographical consideration of the represented landscape. Thereby, it recognizes, in a common materiality of the film, body, landscape and movement.
