A conversation between filmmakers Silvia Maglioni & Graeme Thomson around Ogawa Pro, on the occasion of the Shinsuke Ogawa & Ogawa Pro retrospective at Cinéma du Réel and Jeu de Paume (Paris, March-April 2018).

Author Biographies

Silvia Maglioni

Silvia Maglioni & Graeme Thomson are filmmakers and artists based in Paris. Their practice interrogates potential forms and fictions emerging from the ruins of the moving image and includes the creation of short and feature films, exhibitions, sound works, film-performances, eventworks, radio shows, "vernacular technologies" and books.
Their artistic production (and resistance to production) emanates from Terminal Beach, a zone for critical reflection exploring possible new configurations of image, sound and text, using cinema in expanded form to reactivate lost or forgotten archives and histories and to create new modes of collective vision and engagement with contemporary thought and politics. Thomson and Maglioni's films include "Wolkengestalt" (2007), "Facs of Life" (2009), "Through the Letterbox" (2010), "Blind Data" (2013), "In Search of UIQ" (2013) and "Disappear One" (2015). Their work has been presented worldwide at film festivals, in museums and art spaces. They are currently preparing a new film, "Common Birds".

Graeme Thomson

Silvia Maglioni & Graeme Thomson são cineastas e artistas sediados em Paris. O seu trabalho interroga potenciais formas e ficções emergindo das ruínas da imagem em movimento e assume a forma de longas e curtas metragens, exposições, peças sonoras, performances fílmicas, eventos, emissões radiofónicas, “tecnologias vernaculares” e livros. A sua produção artística (e resistência à produção) emana de Terminal Beach, um território de reflexão crítica que explora novas configurações possíveis para a imagem, o som, e o texto, e que utiliza o cinema expandida de forma a reativar histórias e arquivos perdidos ou esquecidos e a criar novos modos de visão colectiva e envolvimento com a política e o pensamento contemporâneos. Os filmes de Thomson e Maglioni incluem Wolkengestalt (2007), Facs of Life (2009), Through the Letterbox (2010), Blind Data (2013), In Search of UIQ (2013) e Disappear One (2015).  O seu trabalho tem sido apresentado por todo o mundo em festivais de cinema, museus e espaços de arte contemporânea. Maglioni e Thomson encontram-se neste momento a preparar um novo filme, Common Birds.
