Abstract

The eighteenth meeting of the Brazilian Society for Cinema and Audiovisual Studies - Socine, took place between 7th and 10th October 2014, at the University of Fortaleza, Brazil. This article is a reflection on the organization of the event and our review of some of the papers presented there, primarily focused on the most recent Latin American cinematographic productions.

Ana Catarina Pereira is a Junior Lecturer at the University of Beira Interior. PhD in Communication Sciences - Cinema and Multimedia, with the thesis “Female-director: From art for art to an aesthetic of differentiation”. She is a researcher at the LabCom.IFP center, co-organizer of the book “Invisible Generation: The new Portuguese filmmakers” and author of “Study of the Cova da Beira textile worker tissue”.

Eduardo Tulio Baggio, UNESPAR (Universidade Estadual do Paraná), CINECRIARE, Campus Curitiba II - Rua dos Funcionários, 1357, Curitiba/PR, Brasil

Eduardo Tulio Baggio is a professor in the course of Cinema and Video at the Universidade Estadual do Paraná. PhD in Communication and Semiotics from PUC-SP with the thesis “From theory to filmmaking experience of the documentary”. He is a researcher at the research group Cinema: Creation and Reflection (UNESPAR), and member of AIM's work group "The Theory of Filmmakers".

Manuela Penafria, LabCom.IFP, Universidade da Beira Interior, Rua Marquês D'Ávila e Bolama, 6201-001 Covilhã

Manuela Penafria teaches at the University of Beira Interior, in the BA and MA in Cinema and has a PhD from the same university. Researcher at the Labcom.IFP and co-editor of the journal DOC Online (www.doc.ubi.pt). Publications include the books: “The documentary paradigm Antonio Campos, filmmaker” and “Tradition and Reflections: Contributions to documentary theory and aesthetics” (editor). She is member of AIM's work group “The Theory of Filmmakers”.
