The deadline for submission of proposals: 8 January 2026.
The 15th AIM Annual Meeting and International Conference will take place in person in Mirandela on 13–15 May 2026, at the School of Communication, Public Management and Tourism (EsACT), Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (Cruzeiro Campus), in partnership with the Transdisciplinary Research Centre for Education and Development (CITeD).
AIM invites the submission of proposals for papers and pre-constituted panels, in Portuguese, English or Spanish, focusing on the moving image as a scientific area, including the studies and history of cinema, television, video and digital media.
Proposals should include the following elements: (1) name, contact and institutional affiliation; (2) title of the paper; (3) abstract between 150 and 200 words; (4) up to five bibliographical references; (5) up to six keywords. Incomplete proposals will not be considered.
Abstracts should include the following elements: (1) a brief but clear introduction of the object of study, (2) the research objectives, (3) the hypothesis/thesis or argument, (4) a note on the methodology, (5) the (preliminary) results or conclusions.
Proposals may be submitted as individual papers (up to three co-authors) or as a pre-constituted panel. The former can be associated with an AIM Workgroup (WG); the latter may include discussants, whose names should be listed in the form or indicated later.
In order to facilitate the organisation of the conference and ensure the coherence of the panels, we strongly recommend that individual paper proposals be associated with WGs, which will be given priority over other proposals. Before assigning your individual paper to a WG (option available in the submission form from a drop-menu), please check the information available on our website, here.
Important:
1- Each participant can participate cumulatively in the following capacities: (1) as main author of a paper (responsible for the submission); (2) as co-author of a paper (submitted by another main author); (3) as coordinator of a panel; (4) as chair of a panel; (5) as discussant of a panel. If needed, it may be possible to chair more than one panel.
2- The speakers of pre-established panels (including WGs) should come from at least two different institutions.
3- The discussant must have a different institutional affiliation from the speakers whose work they are going to discuss.
Proposals may be submitted by AIM members (exempt from the conference registration fee) and by non-members (subject to a registration fee of €60, payable upon acceptance of their proposal). AIM members must have their membership for 2026 fees up to date at the time of submission. The fees are: 75€ (triennial membership); 55€ (biennial membership), 40€ (annual membership); 20€ (annual membership for unemployed and bachelor’s and master’s students).
The quota regularisation process takes 3-5 business days, so this must be done in a timely manner and before the submission deadline. If you have any doubts about the status of your membership or dues, please contact the AIM office through info@aim.org.pt
To become a member of AIM, please follow the instructions here. Please note that membership application is subject to a review process that may take up to 10 days.
The abstracts of all approved papers will be published as part of the conference programme in a digital Open Access edition with ISBN on AIM’s website.
All proposals must be submitted using the conference form, available here, by midnight (GMT +0h00) of 8 January 2026.
