By plane:
The Faro International Airport (officially Faro - Gago Coutinho International Airport) located 7 km from the center of Faro, is one of the main gateways to Portugal. It offers direct flights to Lisbon and Porto, with durations between 30 and 60 minutes, as well as to other European cities. Upon arrival at the airport, visitors have several transportation options available, including taxis, transfers, and buses.

Using the train operated by CP – Comboios de Portugal, the travel time between Faro and Porto is approximately 5 hours and 45 minutes, covering a distance of around 627 km. Between Lisbon and Faro, the journey takes approximately 3 hours, covering a distance of about 295 km. Daily connections are available, but schedules may vary on weekends and holidays. Upon arrival in Faro, the train station is just a 5-minute walk from the city center. To reach the University of Algarve – Penha Campus, it takes about 25 minutes on foot. Alternatively, you can take a bus from the Bus Terminal, located near the train station, which takes approximately 20 minutes to reach the destination.

By Car
The A2 (Autoestrada do Sul) connects Lisbon to the Algarve region, also serving the Alentejo Litoral, Alentejo Central, and Baixo Alentejo regions. It is the main route for those traveling from north to south by car. From Porto to Faro, the journey takes approximately 5 hours, covering a total distance of 549.7 km. From Lisbon to Faro, the trip takes around 2 hours and 45 minutes, covering 278.9 km.
Getting Around Faro:
The Próximo bus company provides transportation within the city of Faro. On weekends and public holidays, service is reduced. To reach the University of Algarve campuses in Penha and Gambelas, take buses 18 and 19. To get to the airport and the beach, take bus 16. The EVA bus company operates regional routes.
